Plant Relocation: A Case Study in Success with R. Baker
Successful Plant Relocation Project: A Comprehensive Overview
The recent plant relocation project involved a series of complex and coordinated tasks to ensure the seamless transfer and installation of critical equipment. This effort required meticulous planning, skilled execution, and attention to detail across multiple phases. Below is an overview of the key activities undertaken during this project:
Preparation and Structural Modifications
One of the initial steps involved creating strategic openings in the plant's roof to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of large process equipment. These openings were carefully measured and executed to facilitate the removal of the equipment.
Equipment Identification and Match Marking
On this project, R. Baker leveraged state-of-the-art bar-coding and laser technologies to precisely mark all structures prior to dismantling. By combining structure drawings with detailed 3D computer modeling, we enhanced accuracy and streamlined the dismantling process - enabling rapid and efficient reassembly at the new location.
Spark Testing
R. Baker performed spark testing prior to rigging the equipment and again after the equipment was loaded onto the trucks for transport. This included the Spray Dryer and all associated equipment.
Spray Dryer and Associated Equipment
The project included the disassembly, transport, and reinstallation of spray dryers along with associated equipment. Additionally, all associated equipment was carefully rigged and crated for transport, to maintain calibration and functionality.
Dryer Pack-Out and Desiccant Dryer Systems
Dryer pack-out modules and Munters desiccant dryers and related equipment, were carefully removed and prepared for installation at the new location. Ensuring the integrity of these systems was crucial for maintaining consistent product quality.
Utility Systems and Support Infrastructure
The project also encompassed the disassembly and reinstallation of the compressed air system and its associated equipment, ensuring reliable operation post-move. Additionally, a CIP (Clean-In-Place) skid was included, vital for maintaining hygiene standards in production.
Loading and Transportation
All pre-crated equipment was systematically loaded onto transport vehicles, adhering to safety and efficiency protocols. Proper loading procedures ensured the protection of sensitive components during transit. A super sack unit and associated equipment were included in the relocation, requiring specialized handling to prevent damage. Custom crating was provided, to securely package and protect the equipment during transit. Upon arrival at the new location, the equipment was carefully inspected to verify its condition and confirm that all components arrived intact. Each item was then precisely positioned and installed in accordance with the owner's exact specifications to ensure proper alignment, functionality, and seamless integration with the existing systems.
Reinstallation and Structural Restoration
Upon arrival at the new site, the team reinstalled structural elements such as I beams and Q decking, restoring the plant's framework and preparing the environment for reassembly. This step was essential for providing a stable foundation for the equipment.
The Plant Relocation Project Was A Success
Thanks to a comprehensive approach that focused on careful planning, precise execution, and teamwork. This allowed us to successfully minimize downtime and ensure every system was accurately reinstalled and fully operational at the new facility. The plant relocation project highlights the critical importance of strong coordination across different disciplines to achieve an efficient, safe and effective move.
