Interior Demolition and the Work Environment
Interior demolition covers a wide range of possible projects, from interior demolition of a factory, office, laboratory, production facility, healthcare facility, or other. Each type of facility, building or space presents different types of challenges.
The purpose of this article is to discuss the interior demolition environment. Planning and coordinating interior demolition should consider the environment in which people work. This includes proper ventilation and negative pressurization of the demo space. This is done on many projects so that dust and small particulates cannot migrate to another occupied area. This is also performed using solid walls or plastic barriers that isolate one space from another. This becomes a critical operation that needs to be constantly maintained at a negative pressure and monitored by a magnahelic gauge and multiple heap exhaust fans. Proper ventilation and pressurization of a space also helps with air changes so that smoke, dust and particles are removed from the space on a consistent basis. Clean misting water is sometimes used to keep dust at a minimum.
