Demolition Contractor: Earning and Keeping Our Great Reputation

Demolition Contractor: Earning & Keeping Our Reputation

A demolition contractor’s reputation is everything, and what can take decades to build can be lost very quickly if great care is not taken. Customers have specific overall expectations, most notably that the big contractual items be met, but oftentimes clients will grade performance on seemingly “small” details and the contractor’s day-to-day activities.

Above and beyond the delivery of a completed project, clients are looking for competitive pricing, having and implementing a sound safety plan, starting and finishing the work on time, and adhering to an agreed-upon schedule. They want to know a contractor’s demolition approach and how the work will be performed, as this can vary from contractor to contractor and the more seasoned professional will always find the better way.

What is the contractor’s safety approach? Is there a site-specific safety plan, are there regular toolbox talks held, and do all personnel wear the required PPE at all times? Do the foreman and project manager have the skills and experience to Interface with clients and demolition field personnel? What does the demolition site look like each day? Is it kept clean and well-managed? How are problems, obstacles, and changes that come up each day handled, and when they occur, is the job effectively kept on schedule? Working with the client on changes and not nickel-and-diming them throughout the project is always important. And, of course, how clean did the contractor leave the project when demolition is complete and were all the punch-list items addressed? Did the contractor take care of issues without being asked specifically?

R. Baker & Son is a premier demolition contractor with nearly 85 years’ experience, and we’ve achieved our stellar reputation by adhering to the highest of standards – our own – and can answer all of the above questions in the affirmative. We know that our customers are continually grading us and we always strive for an A.
