Rigging Services for NYC and NJ: Offsite Storage & Asset Management

Secure storage of industrial boiler for rigging and assembly projects in New York and New Jersey.

For rigging projects in New York City and New Jersey, access to secure offsite storage and asset management is a crucial component of rigging, setting, and assembly operations, helping accommodate large skid deliveries, equipment, parts, and materials while keeping projects on schedule and costs under control. Most construction projects operate on aggressive schedules with various long lead times for equipment such as electrical substations, transformers, and intricate process equipment ranging from lyophilizers to bioreactors.

Equipment, especially long-lead items, is typically purchased as early as possible in the project timeline. However, when equipment is fabricated and arrives on site can vary significantly from the original contract date. Similarly, how far along the construction process is when equipment arrives can also vary considerably. Understanding when equipment will arrive and when the project is ready to receive it are key drivers in maintaining the overall project schedule and can significantly impact project costs.

The Storage Challenge

Many projects in the Northeast lack adequate storage space or laydown areas at the project site, particularly covered, climate-controlled, and secured spaces for sensitive equipment. Equipment manufacturers typically don't want to store finished products at their facilities due to space constraints, and many contracts require payment upon delivery. When manufacturers can provide storage, it's usually for a limited time at a premium cost.

This challenge is equally relevant for plant relocation projects, where buffer space is needed to safely store both new and used equipment until it's required on site. In some cases, equipment from relocation projects can be cleaned and refurbished while in storage, ensuring it arrives ready for installation.

R. Baker's Solution

R Baker frequently provides the buffer space and storage facilities that help relieve client concerns about safely storing important project assets until they're needed on site. Our 30,000-square-foot facility in Marlborough, New Jersey, serves as this critical buffer space.

Our Capabilities Include:

Outdoor Storage: Several acres of outside space in a convenient location near major highways. Our facility is completely fenced and secure, capable of accommodating wide loads such as air handlers, tanks, platforms, and structures of all kinds. We maintain all necessary equipment to load and unload deliveries at any time.

Indoor Warehouse: Our climate-controlled warehouse features loading docks, heating, sprinkler fire protection, security alarms, and CCTV surveillance both indoors and outdoors. Mission-critical and sensitive equipment is stored inside and carefully inventoried, photographed, and managed by our dedicated warehouse manager.

Value-Added Services: We often assemble equipment at our warehouse for delivery as a complete unit to the job site. Conversely, we can disassemble or separate equipment when rigging space constraints exist in the construction area. We also accommodate clients and construction managers who need to perform equipment inspections while equipment is at our facility.

Specialized Storage: Beyond critical equipment, we've been asked to store and deliver architectural items including flooring, tiles, furniture, and other architectural features that require conditioned storage space.

The Bottom Line

Rigging and storage work hand in hand. Having a separate location to store critical assets not only helps maintain aggressive project schedules but also delivers significant cost savings. By providing secure, flexible storage solutions, we help ensure that your project assets are protected, accessible, and ready when you need them.
