Virtual Reality The Future of Crane & Rigging Training?
Industrial Training International or ITI has 9 training centers in North America with a virtual reality (VR) crane simulator for authentic rigging training and assessment. ITI VR Mobile Crane Simulator currently offers two types/models, the 100-ton Tadano GR-1000XL hydraulic boom rough terrain and 100-ton Link-Belt 218 HSL lattice boom crawler crane. Nine additional models, scheduled for release in 2018.
Using an Oculus Rift headset and a modular rig, ITI’s Virtual Reality crane simulator offers an immersive, highly realistic rigging training experience superior to traditional screen-based simulators. The simulator comes in two types. The portable desktop model comes with a clamping system and five interchangeable joystick pods. The Motion Base version, which includes a full-motion platform with four actuators in the base and bass transducers to simulate engine rumble, provides a more realistic experience. Both include over 350 rigging training scenarios per crane model. ITI promises low up-front costs and subscription pricing based on actual usage.
