Demo Protection on Pharmaceutical Project

Some interior or select demolition projects are complete guts or tear outs where everything must go. Some items need to be identified as not to demolish and remove; this can be done with marking with spray paint, colored ribbons or other. However, some projects and the items left behind need to be protected from any and all accidental demolition damage. Color marking or identifying is not enough. On many select demolition projects that R Baker gets involved in, require us to protect items during demolition that are very expensive and cannot be replaced or protecting something critical to the operation of a facility. Case in point on one particular pharmaceutical project R Baker had to protect many very expensive laboratory countertops that word to remain during demolition.

The countertops were cleaned and photographed then wrapped in floor protection material then a 2 x 4 frame and three-quarter inch plywood over all countertops to protect them from any falling debris, scratches or mishaps. On the same project next-door critical single mode and multimode fiber optic network‘s needed to be protected from any damage or accidental cutting.

The fiber optic inner duct was the company’s network that kept them in business. The multiple inner ducts were framed in with 2 x 4 construction wrapped in three-quarter inch plywood and supported with steel knee braces. Each client has particular needs of things they do not wish to demo, on other projects, there is too much at risk to leave it to chance. Once the demolition was complete, the protection was left in place through the new construction then removed at the tail end of the project near completion. Everything was in the same condition as found.
